Some lesser Known Facts About San Rachel
San Rachel was born and grew up in Karamanikuppam, Puducherry.
She was known for her strong opinion against colourism in the modelling and entertainment industry, and for advocating inclusivity irrespective of size and skin colour.
Coming from a modest background, she faced social bias related to her skin colour from a young age. These experiences later motivated her to challenge stereotypes in the fashion and beauty industries.
San Rachel excelled in academics and extracurricular activities such as dance and modelling from her school days. Her passion for fashion grew alongside her ambition to become a role model for women who faced discrimination based on their appearance
At a very young age, Rachel lost her mother and was raised by her father.
Rachel attended Indira Gandhi Medical College, Puducherry, where she studied Biology.
In 2017, San started a professional modelling career. In an interview, she mentioned that initially, she faced rejection in beauty pageants due to her dark skin.
She won several regional and national beauty titles, including Miss Dark Queen Tamil Nadu (2019), Miss Best Attitude (2019), Miss Puducherry (2020/2021), and Queen of Madras (2022 and 2023).

She was the runner-up at Miss Africa Golden India (2023) and went on to represent India at events held in London, Germany, France, and South Africa.
Beyond competing in beauty pageants, she also worked as a pageant coach. She co-founded a modelling agency named Rose Noire Fashion & Grooming Ltd. in Tamil Nadu, where she mentored aspiring models.
Despite being a successful model and choreographer, Rachel also worked as a biology tutor at a coaching institute in Tamil Nadu.
San was one of the few models from Puducherry to achieve state-level and national fame.
In 2024, she married her long-time boyfriend, Sathya, a fashion designer.

Despite her online popularity and achievements, Rachel was facing serious financial issues. I At one point, she even had to sell her jewellery to fund to fund her modelling and fashion-related events she had organised.
She had also asked for help from her father, but he denied it because he was also facing financial issues.
On 5 June 2025, due to stress and depression, she consumed 50 blood pressure pills at her father’s home. Her father took her to a government hospital, and she was later transferred to a private hospital. However, she reportedly left the hospital without informing anyone and refused further treatment.
Over the next few days, her health got worse. Her body started to swell a lot, so her husband first took her to a private hospital in Moolakulam, Puducherry. When her condition did not improve, she was shifted to Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, for better treatment.
Even with medical care, she died on 13 July 2025.
During the investigation, police found four suicide notes at her home. In them, San Rachel did not blame her family for her death.
In a note to her husband, Sathya, she said sorry for hiding a Rs 6 lakh wedding loan that she had taken through his friend’s wife, without informing him. Sathya had believed that her father had paid for the wedding.
In a note to her father, D. Gandhi, she asked him to sell his land to repay the loan to someone named “Venkat Anna.”
San Rachel had also appeared as judge and jury at various fashion events.

San was an avid animal lover. In 2024, she opened a non‑profit organisation named “RADO’s Gift” to care for indigenous and stray puppies.
