Sampath Raj is an Indian actor, director, and writer, who primarily works in the Tamil and Telugu entertainment industry. Additionally, he has appeared in several Malayalam and Kannada films.

Sampathās family had to relocate to various places across the country because of his fatherās military service. Sampath has resided in Bangalore, Punjab, and Delhi.
When Sampath was young, he didnāt pay much attention to his studies.
Sampath applied at the National School of Drama in Delhi and even got an interview call letter; however, his mother tore up the letter because she was against the entertainment industry. She thought that the only people who entered the film industry were those who lacked culture and education. In an interview, Sampath said that during childhood, he was scared of his mother, which is why his father often told Sampath that if he were that afraid of his mother, he would never be able to make it out as an actor, adding that he should run away from home. After hearing his fatherās advice, Sampath ran away from his home while he was young to follow his passion for acting.
Sampath is a multilingual actor whose native language is Tamil. He is fluent in five to six languages including Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu.
Sampath once said in an interview that his father gave each of his seven children a name based on the days of the week, and as he was the youngest, he was given the name Sunday.
Sampath worked in the advertising and sales department in Bangalore before he got into the acting industry. His first job was in the marketing field where he worked with Yellow Pages selling ad space. Later, he worked at Mumbai Press and then at Navbharat Times in the same field.
I was into advertising and sales. I was selling advertisement space for that 12-13 years. But deep inside, I had always wanted to be an actor.ā
When Sampathās daughter was four years old, Sampath and his wife parted ways after staying in a 7-year long partnership. He talked about his ex-wife and daughter in an interview, and said,
I got married at a very young age of 23. Getting married at that age could be one of the main reasons for the divorce. I took full responsibility for my daughter and she is now in Australia. She is away from the industry and that is how she likes.
Sampath worked in theatre in his early days. It was Sampathās friend who pushed him to audition for the role of Sivanandi in the film Neranja Manasu (2004) as he believed Sampath would be the perfect fit for this role.
In 2013, he worked in the drama film Mirchi in which he played the role of Uma, a role that earned him immense appreciation and awards.

Other Telugu films in which Sampath worked include Dammu (2012), Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gaadha (2016), Krishna and His Leela (2020), and Agent (2023).

Sampath has appeared in a variety of roles in Tamil films such as A. Sampath Kumar in Saroja (2008), Daniel in Goa (2008), and Sevatha Perumal in Magizhchi (2010).
He appeared in several Malayalam films including Anwar (2010), Kili Poyi (2013), Kasaba (2016), and Aarattu (2022).

Sampath said in an interview that he did not have any friends in the film industry.
After hearing the stories of those who were laid off during the pandemic, Sampath Raj and his friend collaborated on a project in 2021 in which the duo provided women chefs with the opportunity to make use of their cooking skills. In an interview, while talking about this, Sampath said,
The pandemic has hit everyone and no one was spared. As people in the limelight, we can be their voice. I could have taken to social media with videos on safety, but I felt I needed to do more than that to help those who have been adversely affected. We heard stories of people being laid off and households in trouble. It was at this time that we set up a space, where women cooks can dole out their homemade specialities.ā
Sampath appeared as Ananth in ZEE5ās two different Indian web series titled Anantham (2022), which is in the Tamil language, and Vyavastha (2023), which is in Telugu.
In an interview, Manchu Bhakthavatsalam (also known as Mohan Babu) revealed that likes Sampath Rajās voice.
Sampath Raj is a fan of Amitabh Bachchan . He once skipped class in the 12th standard to attend the shooting of the film Mard (1985) at the film set during its production. Sampath learned that it was actually Amitabh Bachchanās dupe and not him after spending the entire day watching Amitabh Bachchan fight and act. He was later expelled from the school for skipping class.
He appeared in a Telugu political action thriller film titled Custody (2023), the directorial debut of Venkat Prabhu, in which Sampath played the role of George, a CBI officer.
