Salman hails from a modest familyĀ of Haryana who isĀ into a business of singing at weddings.
He started taking an interest in music at a very early age,Ā and by the age of 7, he started performing at weddings and JagaransĀ to earn the livelihood for his family.
In 2011, he took part in Zee TVās āSa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champsā under the mentorship of Kailash Kher and ended up as the runner-up.
His family hadĀ such a poor financial condition that they couldnāt afford to send him to theĀ Delhi auditions of Indian Idol 10. At that time, his close friend Manohar Sharma helped him financially.
On 23 December 2018, he was declared the winner of āIndian Idol 10,ā He won the trophy, ā¹25 lakh cash prize and a Datsun car.

Before participating in Indian Idol 10, he had already made his singing debut with a Bollywood song titled āSab Badhiya Haiā (sung aalapĀ or the opening section) alongside Sukhwinder Singh from the film āSui Dhaagaā (2018).
He made his first attempt to compose music with the Theme music of Sony TVās historical drama āChandragupta Maurya.ā
