Salim was mostly active in the film industry in the 1980s and 1990s. He was primarily known for films like Qayamat (1983), Loha (1987), Batwara (1989), Phool Aur Angaare (1993), and Baazi (1995).
Akhtar’s collaborations with directors Ashutosh Gowarikar in the film Baazi (1995) and actors Paresh Rawal, Gulshan Grover, and Prem Chopra proved his contribution towards the shaping of 1980s-90s Bollywood.
