Some Lesser Known Facts About Saim Ayub
Saim played tape ball cricket before he started his professional cricket journey.
During his initial days in cricket, Saim wanted to become a pace bowler. He used to open the innings with both bat and bowl for his team until his under 19 days.
Saim considers Saeed Anwar as his cricketing idol since childhood.
Saim’s cricketing talent was spotted by his childhood coach, Mohammad Masroor, during a school tournament in Karachi, where he was invited as a chief guest. Later, he enrolled him in the Rashid Latif Cricket Academy despite facing opposition from his father, who wanted him to excel in academics.
Karachi won the U-16 title twice in a row under the captaincy of Saim Ayub, with him scoring four centuries in both seasons.
Saim came into the limelight from an under-15 cricket tournament held in India in 2016. He played a key role in winning the tournament for Pakistan, scoring 250 runs in five matches. He also won two Man of the Match awards throughout the tournament.
In December 2020, Saim made his first-class debut in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, representing Sindh against Central Punjab. He scored 71 runs in the first innings of the match.

Saim made his T20 debut on 20 February 2021 for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League.
Saim gained fame for his “no-look shots” in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
On 19 March 2022, Saim made his List-A cricket debut in the 2021–22 Pakistan Cup. He played for Sindh and scored 57 runs against Northern Pakistan, along with two wickets in the match.
Saim is a big fan of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team, and in an interview, he once wished to play for them in the Indian Premier League alongside Virat Kohli, whom he admires a lot.
Saim’s first exposure to international cricket was in December 2022 when he was selected in the national squad for the second Test match of the New Zealand series in Karachi.
Saim scored his maiden PSL half-century for Peshawar Zalmi in February 2023. He took 33 deliveries to reach the half-century mark. He finished the PSL 2023 season with 341 runs, an average of 28.41 and a strike rate of 165.53 in 12 matches.
In November 2024, Saim guided the Pakistan team to a historic ODI series victory against Australia in an away series. In the three-match series, he scored 82 runs in the second ODI and 42 runs in the third ODI, being the top scorer in both the matches.

On 26 November 2024, Saim scored the second-fastest ODI hundred by a Pakistani cricketer. He scored a century in just 53 deliveries against Zimbabwe.
Saim Ayub scored his first T20 international half-century against South Africa on 13 December 2024. He missed his century by just two runs in the match as he remained unbeaten with a score of 98 runs.
Saim Ayub’s second ODI cricket century came against South Africa on 17 December 2024. He scored 109 runs off 119 balls and became the youngest player to score a century against South Africa in ODI while chasing. He also broke legendary West Indian batter Brian Lara’s 31-year-old record.
