After slamming the rental truck into the security barriers, Kandula alighted from the vehicle, brandishing a red flag with a swastika symbol. His display continued until he was eventually seized by law enforcement. A variety of objects were later found within the truck. These included the aforementioned Nazi flag, duct tape, a backpack, and a notebook filled with hand-written entries.  In a surprising revelation during his interrogation, Kandula contended that, in his view, his mission had been a success. His intent was to deliver a message, which he felt was successfully received by entities like the United States Secret Service. He said, Either way, whether I got into the White House or not, my message was received." When Kandula was questioned about his awareness of the possible consequences of his drastic actions, he acknowledged his expectations of arrest. During the questioning, he made references to a "green book." He explained that this book was a repository for his ideas, including the details of his planned White House intrusion and his prospective actions once in power. The US Park Police charged Kandula with a series of offences which include assassination threats against the president, vice president, or their relatives, assault with a lethal weapon, reckless driving, trespassing, and federal property destruction. The formal complaint asserts that Kandula's actions led to damages surpassing US$1,000 to the external barriers of the White House. |
