After completing his schooling from a Government school in his village, Raebareli, he moved to Lucknow to pursue his graduation.
He always wanted to be an IAS officer. During his stay in Lucknow, he changed his mind and opted acting as his career, after watching a play at BNA (Bhartendu Natya Academy, Lucknow). In an interview, he stated,
“During my stay in Lucknow, I read a lot of books on career guidance, and every book had one common advice to give: choose the career that you like. So I started questioning myself if I actually wanted to become an IAS officer.”
Then, he took admission in BNA for a four-month theatre workshop, and from here, he began his Bollywood journey. After doing theatres for 5 years in Lucknow, he enrolled for an acting course at FTII, Pune. During his course, he got his first film, Knock Out (2010) with Sanjay Dutt and Irrfan Khan .

In 2011, he moved to Mumbai and there, he got a role in a film, Shahid (2012).
In 2014, he was featured in a film, Highway, along with Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda . This film was the first big hit of his career; which changed his life completely.
In 2017, he got a movie as a lead actor in “Love And Shukla.”
