During school, Sachin Tanwar enjoyed spending time with friends and skipping classes to play sports.
He once visited his uncle, Rakesh Chauhan, a kabaddi player for Indian Railways, and watched a kabaddi match. This inspired him to aim for a career in kabaddi.
Sachin Tanwar played in under-14 and under-16 kabaddi tournaments, which helped him qualify for the Senior India National selection trials.
In 2017, he made his debut for the Senior India Team at the Asian Kabaddi Championships.
In June 2017, Sachin Tanwar was picked by the Gujarat Giants (then called Gujarat Fortunegiants) for Rs. 36 Lakhs in the Pro Kabaddi League.

In 2021, Sachin Tanwar was selected by the Patna Pirates team in the 8th season of the Pro Kabaddi League.
