Some Lesser Known Facts About Rohit Sardana

Rohit Sardana was an Indian journalist who was known for hosting many popular TV debate shows including ‘Dangal’ on Aaj Tak, and ‘Taal Thok Ke’ on Zee News. He died of a heart attack while undergoing treatment for the COVID-19 on 30 April 2021.
After completing his schooling in Kurukshetra, Haryana, Sardana went to Hisar, where he pursued a master’s degree in Mass Communication at Guru Jambeshwar University of Science and Technology.
While pursuing his master’s degree in Hisar, Sardana interned at ETV Network in Delhi, and when he was in his final semesters, he was offered a job by ETV Network.
According to Sardana, he was paid only Rs. 3,200 as a stipend at ETV Network, and to compensate for his subsistence in Delhi, he had to borrow Rs. 5,500 every month from his father.
Reportedly, Rohit Sardana started his career as an announcer at All India Radio, and later, he went on to work with many prominent media houses including ETV, Sahara Samay, Zee News, and Aaj Tak.
While working at ETV Network, he worked as a Video Toaster Editor under a Japanese team for five months.
At the beginning of his career, he covered the 2002 Gujarat Assembly Elections; in an interview, Sardana said that he had to learn Gujarati while covering the Gujarat Assembly Elections.
In 2003, Sardana left ETV; at that time, the network paid him Rs. 72,000 as a monthly salary.
In the same year, he joined Sahara Samay, where he worked as an Assistant Producer for almost one year.
In 2004, Sardana left Sahara Samay to join Zee News. It was while working at Zee News that Sardana became a popular name in the field of Hindi journalism. At Zee News, he worked in different capacities including executive editor, anchor, news presenter, and host.
While working at Zee News, Sardana hosted many popular TV shows including ‘Taal Thok Ke.’ He also hosted many cricket-based shows at Zee News. According to Sardana, he had no knowledge about cricket when he was asked to host these shows, and he had to learn the basics of the game before venturing into it.

In 2017, after working for almost thirteen years at Zee News, Rohit Sardana left the channel for Aaj Tak, where he worked till he breathed his last.
While working at Aaj Tak, Sardana became very popular for hosting a number of prime-time shows including Dangal, a debate show.

On 24 April 2021, Rohit Sardana took to Twitter to announce that he had tested positive for the COVID-19.

He was rushed to Metro Multispecialty Hospital in Noida after his condition worsened on the night of 29 April 2021.
On 30 April 2021, Rohit Sardana suffered a heart attack while undergoing treatment at Metro Multispecialty Hospital in Noida.
After informing Rohit’s family of his demise, the India Today Group shared the news with the public. Zee News chief Sudhir Chaudhary expressed his shock over the untimely demise of Sardana, Chaudhary took to Twitter to express his grief.

Aaj Tak’s journalist Chitra Tripathi broke down on air while she was sharing the news of Sardana’s death on Aaj Tak.
Even after getting contracted with the COVID-19, Sardana tried to help other COVID patients through social media, and even at the night before his death, he posted a tweet, seeking help for a COVID patient.
