When Rishi Sunak became the Prime Minister of the UK, it was revealed that he was the youngest person to become the British Prime Minister in 200 years of history.
He was born in a Hindu family, and his grandparents migrated from East Africa to the UK circa 1960, making him a first-generation immigrant in the UK.
In an interview, on being asked how he felt and celebrated when he became the first Hindu-origin PM of Britain, he replied,

It was obviously marvellous. It meant a lot of things to a lot of people. As chancellor, I was able to light my Diwali Diyas (oil lamps) on the steps of Downing Street. On 20 July 2022, he was chosen amongst other Conservative MPs to contest the Conservative Party Leadership elections. He contested the elections with foreign secretary Liz Truss . He lost the elections with 42.6% votes, while Liz Truss won the elections with 57.4% votes.
After Liz Truss stepped down from the position of Prime Minister of the UK after her short tenure of 44 days, Rishi Sunak competed with Penny Mordaunt, Rishi Sunak’s only opponent, who backed out of the race to become the PM of the United Kingdom.
