Some Lesser Known Facts About Ranjana Deshmukh
Ranjana Deshmukh was an Indian actress, who worked predominantly in the Marathi film industry. She also worked in the Hindi and Telugu film industries. She died of cardiac arrest in 2000 in Mumbai at the age of 45.
At the age of 5, she began acting as a child actor after V. Shantaram introduced her to the Marathi and Hindi film industries.
After her parents got divorced, her mother, Vatsala, along with her children, began to live with Ranjanaâs maternal aunt, Sandhya Shantaram.
In 1987, she worked in the V. Shantaram directorial Hindi film âJhanjhaarâ starring Padmini Kolhapure .
She appeared in a supporting role in the 1994 Hindi comedy-drama film âYeh Dillagiâ in which  Akshay Kumar, Kajol, and Saif Ali Khan were cast in lead roles.

In 1975, she worked in the Marathi film âChandanachi Choli Anga Anga Jali.â She appeared as Kamala Kolhapure in the 1975 Marathi action film âJhunj.â She appeared as Shalan in the 1977 Marathi film âAsla Navra Nakoga Bai.â In the same year, she appeared in the Marathi film âChanniâ in a lead role. She appeared in the 1978 Marathi film âSasurvasheenâ in which she played the role of Durga Mane. She appeared as Sushila in the 1978 Marathi film of the same name. She worked in the 1980 Marathi film âAre Sansar Sansarâ in which she appeared as Ratna Desai. She appeared in the 1981 Marathi film âDevghar.â

In 1982, she appeared in the Marathi comedy film âEk Daav Bhutachaâ in which she played the role of Nakubala. Later, she appeared in the Marathi comedy-drama film âGalli Te Dilliâ in which she played the role of Taramati. In 1984, she worked in the Marathi comedy-drama film âBin Kamacha Navraâ in which she appeared as Dhrupada. In the same year, she appeared as Bhanu in the Marathi action film âZakhmi Wagin.â

In 1987, when Ranjana Deshmukh was going to Bangalore to shoot for the Hindi social drama film âJhanjhaar,â she met with an accident. She was travelling with her co-stars and none of them was seriously injured; however, she lost her legs and left hand in the accident. Her acting career came to end after the accident. Later, she acted in one Marathi theatrical production titled âFakt Ekdaachâ in which she played the role of a woman sitting in a wheelchair whose lover had abandoned her.
In 2011, Zee Talkies decided to pay their tributes to Ranjana Deshmukh by showcasing her popular films on 3 March 2011. To pay tribute to Ranjana Deshmukh, the Maharashtra government introduced an award in her memory.
She resided at Shivaji Park, Parel in central Mumbai.
She made famous on-screen couples with many famous Marathi actors including Ashok Saraf , Avinash Masurekar, Shriram Lagoo , Kuldeep Pawar, Nilu Phule, and more.
Abhijeet Mohan Warang, a National Award-winning director, announced a biopic on Ranjana Deshmukh titled âRanjana Unfold.â On 23 July 2022, he released the teaser of the film. Later, it was revealed that the film is supposed to be released on 3 March 2023.
