While getting into the details of the report, Ramita added,The moment that changed my career and changed the course of my life was the first big story I ever did and it was a massive earthquake in Iran, in the south of Iran called Bam. I was one of the first western journalists along with two friends to get there and we were totally unprepared for what we saw which was tens of thousands of dead bodies. People have lined up their dead in the street and when we got to Bam there were no rescue services there. The scene was post-apocalyptic and people were in shock and there was an eerie deadly silence as we drove into this desert town that had been absolutely ruined and all around us we could see was people quietly scrabbling in the ruins of their homes to try and dig out loved ones who are still under the rubble. It was the first time I was writing for a newspaper and it was the first time that I was dealing with just a horrific event unfolding in front of my eyes and that will stay with me forever.” check sources
