Some Lesser Known Facts About Rajeev Krishna
Rajeev Krishna was born and raised in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, India.
After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, he started preparing for the civil services.
In 1991, Rajeev Krishna cleared the civil service exam, and he was appointed as an officer in the Indian Police Service (IPS).
Krishna was one of the youngest to become an IPS officer at the age of 22.
His journey began with training at the Moradabad Police Training Centre, followed by his first posting in Prayagraj in 1992.
He later went for further training in Hyderabad and returned to Uttar Pradesh in October 1993 to take charge as the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Bareilly.
During his early IPS years, he served in sensitive districts of Uttar Pradesh such as Kanpur and Agra.
Rajeev’s posting to Bareilly marked the beginning of a new chapter, both professionally and personally. It was here that he met his wife, Meenakshi Singh.
Rajeev Krishna’s elder son, Rudra Singh Krishna, is pursuing law at the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, and his younger son, Ribhav Singh Krishna, has recently cleared his intermediate examinations.
From 1995 to 2003, Rajeev served as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Bareilly, Kanpur and Aligarh, while as Superintendent of Police, he served in districts like Firozabad, Etawah, Mathura, Fatehgarh, Bulandshahr, Noida, Agra, Lucknow and Bareilly.
In 2004, he was appointed as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Agra. During his service tenure in Agra, he cracked down hard on kidnapping cases and gang-related crimes, which earned him recognition and trust in Agra’s public.
In 2007, Krishna was appointed as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Uttar Pradesh. In the same year, he was appointed as an Additional Director General (ADG) of the Uttar Pradesh Police Academy, where he was responsible for training and mentoring new generations of police officers, emphasising modern policing techniques.
From 2018 to 2019, he served as an ADG of the Lucknow Zone. During his service tenure, he managed critical law and order situations across central Uttar Pradesh.
In 2020, Rajjeb Krishna was appointed as the ADG of the Agra Zone. He had launched “Operation Pehchaan,” a mobile-based platform designed to identify and verify unknown bodies and missing persons. He also introduced e-Malkhana, a system for digitising and streamlining police case property records, which has made handling evidence more transparent and efficient way.
Rajeev was also the founding chief of the UP Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), where he laid the foundation for the state’s counter-terrorism operations.
When the Anti Terrorism Squad was established in Uttar Pradesh, Rajeev Krishna was made the first Director Inspector General (DIG) of Uttar Pradesh
Krishna also served as inspector general of operations in the Border Security Force, where he introduced a sensor-based comprehensive and integrated border management System, which improved surveillance and operational effectiveness along the borders with India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
In August 2023, he was transferred from the position of Additional Director General (ADG) of the Agra Zone to ADG of Vigilance in Lucknow.
In January 2024, he was promoted to the post of Director General in January 2024.
In March 2024, after the paper leak incident in the UP Police Recruitment Examination, CM Yogi Adityanath gave him the responsibility of chairing the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion, where the examination was conducted safely under his chairmanship.
In early 2025, he was appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Bhim Rao Ambedkar Police Academy in Uttar Pradesh, further contributing to the training and development of police personnel.
Rajeev Krishna was appointed the Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh on May 31, 2025.
He is the fifth acting Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh appointed in the last three years.
His appointment is viewed as a reward for this achievement, as he has surpassed 11 other senior officers to secure this highly prestigious position.
Krishna will continue to hold charge of the Director General of Vigilance and the Director of UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, along with the Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh.
