Raj Kushwaha belonged to a poor family from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.
He used to live near Sonam Raghuvanshi ‘s house, but later shifted to a different colony.
After completing his formal studies, he started working as in the finance department at a furniture sheet unit owned by Sonam’s family in Indore.
In early 2024, Raj and Sonam fell in love with each other and started dating.

Police later confirmed that Raj Kushwaha was the main mastermind who planned the murder and arranged everything.
On 13 June 2025, Raja’s family demanded that Raj and Sonam both face narco tests because they were not telling the full truth.
Raj’s mother denied his involvement in Raja’s murder and claimed that he was being implicated.
The court later sent him and other accused to 8 days of judicial custody.
