| Controversies | Son Nishant's Bullying Case: On 22 February 2014, Raj Kumar's son Nishant reportedly bullied a fellow schoolmate named Kulraj Bedi at the Gems Cambridge International School. On 23 February 2014, Kuraj committed suicide by consuming poison, following which his father, Vishal Bedi, lodged an FIR. According to the complaint, Kulraj was beaten by Nishant and five other students, who torn his clothes and ridiculed him. Due to this, he refused to attend school. Vishal also organised a protest rally seeking justice for Kulraj. In March 2014, the court rejected Nishant's bail plea. However, an interim bail was granted by the court in April 2014. On 8 February 2014, Vishal lodged another complaint in which he alleged that Raj Kumar had tried to intimidate him and force him to settle the matter outside the court. He reportedly told Vishal that the cops "were in his pocket" and that nothing would come from the complaint. He was also quoted saying that "he had already got cancelled the FIR by using his influence and money and he is not afraid of anybody now." Forgery Allegations: In 2022, Raj Kumar allegedly forged documents to promise funds for roof repairs to 4,600 poor individuals and later led a misleading protest when the funds were not received. Initially, CM Bhagwant Mann ordered action against him, but after Raj joined AAP, no FIR was registered despite a report confirming the allegations. Some Lesser Known Facts About Raj Kumar Chabbewal
Raj Kumar grew up in a financially struggling family in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. Their financial issues were so severe that there were times when it was hard to afford food.
Raj won the 2017 Punjab Legislative Assembly elections on a ticket from the INC by defeating the Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Sohan Singh Thandal by a margin of 29,261 votes; he represented the Chabbewal (SC) constituency.
He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Hoshiarpur but lost the seat to Som Parkash, a BJP candidate.

He defeated the AAP candidate Harminder Singh Gill with a margin of 7646 votes in the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election, which he contested from the Chabbewal (SC) constituency.
On 15 March 2024, Raj resigned from the Indian National Congress due to āindisciplineā within the party. He also resigned from the Punjab Legislative Assembly. On the same day, he joined the Aam Aadmi Party in the presence of CM Bhagwant Mann in Chandigarh.

Raj Kumar won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Hoshiarpur (SC) constituency on a ticket from AAP. He defeated Yamini Gomar, an INC candidate, by a margin of 44,111 votes.
