In June 1999, Rahul Kanwal started working as a reporter and anchor at Zee News and Zee Business. He worked there for more than three years.
As an intern, his first big interview was with the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee .
In November 2002, he joined Aaj Tak as principal correspondent and anchor.
In 2004, he was promoted to special correspondent, and in 2006, he was promoted to senior special correspondent in Aaj Tak.
In April 2007, he became editor of Headlines Today at Aaj Tak.
He gained popularity with his Hindi news TV show ‘Seedhi Baat.’ Some of his guests on the show were Salman Khan , Lalu Prasad Yadav , Arvind Kejriwal , and Kanhaiya Kumar .
