Ragini Sonkar belongs to a political family in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
While pursuing her MD at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, she worked in the OPD in the Ophthalmology department.
After completing her MD, she returned to Uttar Pradesh and joined politics.
During the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, (she defeated Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mehilal Gautam and succeeded her own party member Jagdish Sonkar.
In 2022, the Samajwadi party gave the party ticket to Shailendra Yadav Lalai; however, Akhilesh Yadav cancelled the party ticket and gave the ticket to Ragini to contest in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh state legislative Assembly Election.
On 22 September 2022, Ragini gave a speech at the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly on women’s issues, a video of which went viral on social media due to which she gained a lot of popularity. During her speech, she said that the country will develop only when women grow in the country.
