He was born in Poonamallee, Tamil Nadu with the name- Raghavendra Murugaiyan. He adopted the screen name ‘Lawrence’ in 2001.
He never went to school as he was battling with a brain tumor in his childhood.
He got rid of that tumor after his mother went to a temple of ‘Raghavendra Swami’ and Raghav strongly believes that his tumor was cured by Raghavendra Swami.
Since then, he is a fervid devotee of Raghavendra Swami. He also built the Raghavendra Swami Brindavanam Temple at Thirumullaivayal on the Avadi-Ambattur route in 2010.
He used to work as a car cleaner for fight master Super Subbarayanand and on one fine day the legendary Tollywood actor, Rajinikanth , saw him dancing and helped him join the Dancers Union.
