Rafael Reyes is an American artist who has excelled in various creative fields. He is not only a singer but also a painter, author, and restaurateur, and has a unique background as a former gang member. He is renowned for being the pioneer of the Chologoth genre of music, which blends different musical styles. His artwork showcases a fusion of the occult and artistic expression.
When he was just four years old, he and his family immigrated to San Diego, California, in the United States. Their journey was not legal, but later on, they were granted amnesty, which provided them with a permanent green card, allowing them to stay in the country legally.

During his teenage years, he joined the Sherman 27th Street Grant Hill Park gang after his father got into a confrontation with local gang members who had previously harassed his sister.
In order to protect his family from the harassment of gang members, he joined a gang, although his father strongly disapproved of his decision. His father, who had immigrated from Mexico to the U.S. in search of a better life, expressed his disappointment in Rafael, feeling that he had violated the hopes they had for a brighter future.

After finishing his schooling, Rafael Reyes, at the age of eighteen, partnered with his father to open Pokez, San Diegoās first vegan/vegetarian Mexican restaurant. They successfully operated the restaurant for 18 years; however, he sold his restaurant to his younger brother in 2005 after the death of his father.
It is alleged that Rafael Reyes became extremely angry and engaged in a physical altercation with his friends when he discovered that his daughter had engaged in a sexual relationship with them. As a result of this incident, he was reportedly sent to jail in 2010.Ā check sources Vice

He was later sentenced to six months in prison for assault. This incident also marked the accumulation of two strikes under Californiaās three-strike law, which carried severe consequences, potentially resulting in decades or a life sentence if he were to commit another assault. Following his time in prison, he redirected his focus towards his creative pursuits, delving into the realms of painting and music.
Upon his release from prison, Rafael Reyes authored a book titled āLiving Dangerously,ā which recounted his experiences of childhood struggles and gang life. The book gained recognition and was included in the Architecture and Planning Special Collections at Cornell University Library.
Rafael Reyes embarked on his musical journey by establishing his initial band, Baptism of Thieves. Subsequently, he went on to form the band Vampire. Following the disbandment of both groups, he collaborated with Dave Parley, a former resident of Tijuana, to create the musical project known as Prayers. Taking on the name Leafer Seyer, Rafael continued to evolve his musical endeavours. Additionally, he explored his individual artistry under the moniker Nite Ritual.

He has crafted lyrics that draw inspiration from gang activities and street life. His band Prayers made their debut with the album titled D Killwave in 2013, followed by the release of the EP Gothic Summer in 2014. He has sung songs in various genres including Goth, Electronic, Chicano rock, and Hip Hop. In 2022, the Prayers band unveiled two albums, Young Gods Never Die and Chologoth, further showcasing his evolving musical style.

He is recognized for his unique blend of Western esotericism and Olmec beliefs. As a means of breaking away from gang life, he formed a collective called Diamond Dogs, consisting of former gang members, who found solace and expression through art and music. This group provided an outlet for their creativity and allowed them to explore new avenues beyond their past affiliations.

During the LA Art Show in 2015, he exhibited his artwork in the exhibition titled āDark Progressivism: Metropolis Rising.ā One of his notable creations, a sculpture called āSouthland,ā was unveiled at the Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) in 2017 as part of the exhibition āDark Progressivism: The Built Environment.ā The sculpture and the exhibition explored the intricate relationship between urban landscapes and the evolving nature of society.
