Some Lesser Known Facts About Puja Tomar
Her father passed away when she was seven years old.
As a child, Puja Tomar used to help her mother in farming.
She participated in sports during her school days and enjoyed watching wushu and boxing, trying to imitate the athletes.
Some of her neighbours used to practice wushu, and Puja Tomar spent hours watching them. She tried to copy what she saw and used the limited facilities in her area to practice it.
She learned karate and taekwondo in school but did not enjoy the games as they did not include the hard punches. She won multiple medals in both disciplines.
By the age of 12, Puja Tomar felt that she needed to move to a bigger city for better opportunities. She then asked her mother for better training in mixed martial arts.
After that, she moved from Muzaffarnagar to Meerut to improve her athletic skills.
She joined a mixed martial arts training centre in Meerut and began training in wushu, karate, and kickboxing.
Puja Tomar won her first medal in MMA at the sub-junior national level when she was 12 years old and later joined the Sports Authority of India in Bhopal.
After that, she participated in many national-level championships and won multiple medals.
Puja Tomar then represented India in the Wushu World Championships and became a five-time national Wushu champion with 67 wins and 5 losses.
Her mother motivated her to pursue a career in MMA.
In October 2013, Puja Tomar won a Super Fight League (SFL) match against Priyanka Kadam. The match was organised in Nashik, India.
She represented India in the 2015 World Wushu Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In September 2021, Puja Tomar defeated Jojo Rajkumari in the 6th season of Matrix Fight Night organised in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She had victories in MFN Seasons 9, 10, and 12.

Her favourite grappling technique is the heel hook, and her preferred striking technique is the sidekick.
Puja Tomar secured her first Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) contract in 2023.

On 8 June 2024, Tomar fought against Rayanne dos Santos at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) organised in Louisville, Kentucky, United States, and won by split decision.
