Priyanka Goswami is an Indian athlete who is specialized in the 20-kilometre race walk. She holds the national record of completing the race in 1:28.45 surpassing Bhawna Jat by one minute and nine seconds.

On 13 February 2021, she won the 8th Open National and International race walking championship in Ranchi where the national record was set.
After winning this important race, she qualified for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, USA. Delighted by the victory, she said
I haven’t had the time to rest yet, let alone celebrate. I’ve to get back to training for the Olympics!”

Since the Tokyo Olympics 2020 was postponed due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, Priyanka wasn’t upset. In fact, she started preparing for future competitions. She once said in an interview that
We cannot do anything about what we cannot control.”
According to Priyanka, while she was studying in the 6th standard, she was into gymnastics for a while, and by the time she reached class nine, she had started taking interest in athletics. Her father got suspended from the job from the roadways in 2011. Her younger brother was a state-level boxer but switched to the private sector’s job later on.
She persuaded her training from one of the stadiums in Meerut before moving it to a state-government run hostel in KD Singh Stadium in Lucknow. But eventually, she lost her interest in Gymnastics and later she left the hostel.
She took a break of 3 to 4 years from sports. Finally, she held her courage and returned to the stadium where she underwent rigorous physical training from the coach for two months.
Soon, she realized that her stamina is good enough to compete in bigger track competitions.
She won the 800-meter race in her school. In 2011, knowing her potentials she switched to race walking when she took part in her first race walking event. She was in a 12th standard at that time. She also won the race the same year where she was placed third at the district level meet. She received the bag as a reward for her performance.
Interestingly, she participated in 800m, 1500m races before but couldn’t bag any reward. It was only until her coach advised her to try her hands in race walking.
As time went by, she gained her domination in the race walk by winning 60 medals and still running strongly. These medals came at Junior, Senior and National meets.

Out of these 60 medals, two silver medals came at a national level in 2017-18 and one gold medal in the all-India railway competition in 2018. Apart from all that, she also took part in World Walk Championship in Italy and Asian Walk Championship in Japan.
In 2015, she joined training at the Sports Authority of India, Bengaluru.
In March 2018, she joined the Indian Railways as a clerk through the sports quota.
Priyanka Goswami is a fashionista athlete who loves wearing fashionable dresses even before her races. In an interview, she talked about this and said,
I love new things, wearing fashionable dresses. Before I go for races, I would think how to dress up my kits and which hairstyle I will have, like this.”
Priyanka is an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna, and she always carried an idol of Lord Krishna in every competition.
According to Priyank, as a child, she was fascinated with the bag the medal winners were presented with, and prior to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, even Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned that Goswami had taken up athletics due to her fascination with the medal winners’ bag. check sources NDTV
Priyanka loves nail art, and she always paints her nail with the flag of the country where she competes. In an interview, she talked about this and said,
I have painted my nails with the flags of the country where I compete so I have England for the Commonwealth Games, Japan for the Olympic Games, Spain because I raced there and some other flags as well.”
Athe the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Priyanka Goswami won silver in 10,000m; she clocked a personal best time of 43:38.83s to finish second behind Jemima Montag (42:34.30) of Australia; this was her first international medal. check sources NDTV During a virtual interaction after winning her maiden international medal, Goswami said,
I have opened my medal account (in international events). Now, my target is to qualify for 2024 Olympics and do my personal best there. I want to do well in Paris.”

In July 2024, she secured the Olympic quota in the marathon race walk mixed relay event for the Paris Olympics.
