He is the brother of film producer Kailash Chopra.
After graduation, he started working as a circulation inspector in the circulation department of the Times of India and handled Bengal, Orissa & Madhya Pradesh.
In 1960, he made his breakthrough with the Bollywood film ”Hum Hindustani.”
He worked in 2 different languages, such as Hindi and Punjabi.
On 15 August 1993, he represented India as Grand Marshall in Chicago during the Independence Day Parade.
He was honored with the Honorary Citizenship of Chicago by the Chicago Mayor and also awarded by the Federation of Indian Association for his outstanding contribution to humanitarian causes and enriching the Indian community in India & abroad.
He was also honored with numerous popular awards such as Lifetime Achievement Award, Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award, Lions Club Award, Ashoka Award, Ashirwad Award, and Punjabi Kala Sangam Award.
His daughter Rakita Chopra wrote his biography titled ”Prem Naam Hai Mera, Prem Chopra.”
