After completing his formal education, Praveen Tej moved from Shivamogga to Bangalore to pursue his dream of becoming an actor.
He then started taking classes in acting, martial arts, and dance to develop his skills as an artist.

In his Kannada debut film Jolly Days in 2009, Praveen Tej played the lead role alongside actress Aishwarya Nag . The film was directed by M. D. Sridhar.
In 2013, he appeared in the Kannada film Aantharya as Krishna.
In 2014, Praveen Tej appeared as Vishal in the television series Radha Kalyana, which aired on Zee Kannada.
