Pravati Parida enrolled as an advocate in the Odisha High Court in 1995.
After joining the Bharatiya Janata Party, she served as the president of the party’s women’s wing in Odisha.

Pravati contested the 2009 Odisha Legislative Assembly elections from the Nimapara constituency on a ticket from the BJP; however, she lost to the Biju Janata Dal candidate Samir Ranjan Dash.
She lost the Nimapara seat to Samir Ranjan Dash in the 2014 and 2019 Odisha Legislative Assembly elections by 29,637 and 32,008 votes respectively.
Pravati won the 2024 Odisha Legislative Assembly elections from the Nimapara constituency by defeating Dilip Kumar Nayak, a BJD candidate, by a margin of 4,588 votes.
On 11 June 2024, Pravati Parida and Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo were announced as the Deputy Chief Ministers of Odisha. This made Pravati the first woman to hold the position of Deputy CM in the state.
