Some Lesser Known Facts About Pranav Soorma
While Pranav Soorma was in school, he participated in various games like football, tennis, volleyball, and roller hockey. He was also the captain of his school’s cricket team.
In childhood, he loved playing PlayStation with his cousins.

On 20 May 2011, at around 5 pm, while he was walking down the stairs, a cement shed of 12 feet fell on his head. At that time, he had worn a helmet as he was about to travel on a motorcycle. The helmet broke into pieces, but his head was saved from injury. However, he had a severe spinal cord injury. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. After surgery, he had regular sessions with a physiotherapist.
After graduating, he started taking CA coaching. He has cleared CPT and IPCC Group 1.
While he was at the Delhi School of Economics, he was a member of the Enactus Group of his college.
He cleared UGC-NET on his first attempt.
As he was on a wheelchair, he required someone to assist him all the time. His family could not afford a full-time attendant, so his father left his job and became a permanent attendant of Pranav. His mother continued her job to meet the financial expenses of the family.
Later, one of his friends motivated him to participate in wheelchair rugby. He then did his training in the sport under the Indian rugby player Nikhil Kumar Gupta. He was also selected for the Haryana Rugby Para team.
In 2016, he represented India in wheelchair rugby at an international championship in Indonesia.
In the same year, he came to know about the Paralympics after he saw a few events of the 2016 Rio Paralympics on TV. He first thought of opting for para-swimming, but due to his medical condition, he could not pursue it. He then thought of opting for Table Tennis, but he could not find any coach nearby who could train him.
In 2017, he won the Mr Wheelchair India title.
In 2018, he met the former Paralympian Girraj Singh who introduced him to the Indian para-athletics coach Narsi Ram. Narsi then started Pranav’s training in Club Throw. Later, he did his training in discus throw.
In January 2020, he started working as an assistant manager at the Bank of Baroda.
He has participated in various para club throw championships like the Asian Para Games, Paralympics, and World Championships.

In his leisure time, he enjoys playing Rubik’s cubes. He has a good collection of it.
