Poojappura Ravi was an Indian actor who is known for playing comedy roles in Malayalam films. He died on 18 June 2023 due to age-related illness.
He gained recognition for his exceptional voice and distinctive style of delivering dialogues. His career started as a performer during his school days, primarily focusing on radio plays. His voice quickly became well-known to the audience, particularly through his involvement in Akashvani’s series of children’s plays.
When he was 12, during his seventh standard, he was chosen as one of the 15 individuals to participate in Aagasavani. He completed his studies until the eleventh standard and then ventured into acting with a theatre company named ‘Kalastanyam Drama Vision.’ He took on a minor role in the play Oralakudi Kallanai, earning a monthly salary of Rs. 500. During this time, he was married and a father.
Initially, his ventures into cinema were not very successful, so he did other jobs as well. However, he was later reintroduced to the stage by Mr Achari, which proved to be a turning point in his career. He became involved in popular plays like Raktharakshassu and Kayamkulam Kochunni and became a popular name in the theatre industry.
Under the influence of renowned theatre artist Kalanilayam Krishnan Nair, he adopted his stage name.
He acted in about 4000 stage plays and more than 800 films.
He appeared in many Malayalam films including Ormakal Marikkumo as Vaidyar (1977), Swapname Ninakku Nandi as Pachu Pilla (1983), Oru CBI Diary Kurippu as Mathai (1988), American Ammayi as Keshu Nair (1999), and Darvinte Parinamam as Priest (2016).

He appeared in Malayalam serials including Mahathma Gandhi Colony (2000) (Surya TV), Kadamattathu Kathanar (2004) (Asianet), Swami Ayyappan (2006) (Asianet), Bhaamini Tholkarila (2009) (Asianet), Kadamattathachan (2011) (Surya TV), Melappadam (2016) (Doordarshan), and Aluvayum Mathikariyum (2016) (Asianet Plus).

In 2022, he moved from Poojapura where he stayed for 40 years to stay with his daughter Lakshmi in Munnar Marayur after his son Harikumar left India and went to England with his family.
In 2023, after his death, Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly VD Satheesan, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Saji Cherian, Higher Education Minister Dr R Bindu and former ministers KK Selja and G Sudhakaran expressed condolences on Ravi’s death.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also took to Facebook and said,
Condolences on the demise of famous actor Poojapura Ravi. He entered the field of art by conquering the hearts of theatre lovers. The actor, who had a lot of fans across Kerala, entered the film world later and went on to win the hearts of people through the portrayal of comic characters. Poojapura Ravi followed an expressive acting style. His demise is a great loss to the art and culture scene. Condolences to his family and colleagues.”
