Some Lesser Known Facts About Pilot Baba

  • Kapil Singh became a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force in 1957. He fought in both the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pakistani wars.

  • During the war, as a fighter pilot, when he was flying near the North–East Frontier Agency (NEFA) border, his plane lost control. He lost contact with the base and was not sure where to land. When the authorities lost hope of reconnecting with him, he came back.

  • According to Kapil Singh, his spiritual guru, Hari Baba, appeared in the cockpit of the aircraft and guided him to land the plane safely. This incident changed his life.

  • The destruction he caused in the 1971 war, troubled him, and he decided to leave the Air Force.

  • When Kapil Singh was 33 years old, he left the Indian Air Force to follow a spiritual path. He spent seven years in the Himalayas and found a spiritual teacher.

  • After noticing the effects of war and human conflict, Kapil Singh decided to find true peace through spirituality. He then went on to establish several ashrams in India and Japan.

  • He influenced many important politicians and even worked with the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi and her son, Sanjay Gandhi , on various projects aimed at promoting world peace.

  • Kapil Singh became known for his powerful activities such as burying himself underground in an airtight glass box or dipping himself underwater for days or even weeks.

  • In 1980, Kapil Singh instructed one of his disciples to bury underground for ten days instead of doing it himself. During the procedure, large sums of money were collected from devotees.

  • After ten days, when the pit was opened, a foul smell revealed that the man had died. It was later calculated that he could have only survived for about 24 hours without fresh air.

  • In 1992, in one instance, a large swimming pool was dug in a Delhi park, and in front of 5,000 viewers, he dipped himself in water for five days. However, investigators later discovered a hidden cabin that allowed him to stay dry and comfortable during the procedure.

  • Once, Kapil Singh was caught on camera in a television sting operation, where he was offering to convert “black” money into “white.” His offer involved processing £1,200,000 through his ashram’s accounts in exchange for a 30 per cent commission through his magical powers and financial manipulation.

  • Kapil Singh, later known as Pilot Baba, used to claim that he could enter a deep, death-like state called samadhi, sometimes while buried underground.

  • Pilot Baba and his followers have established spiritual centres, or ashrams, in India and other countries. In India, these are located in Sasaram, Haridwar, Nainital, and Uttarkashi.

  • Pilot Baba, who was named Somnath Giri by Vijaya Raje Scindia of Gwalior, was famous for his unique practice of samadhi, which he claimed to have done over 110 times since 1976.

  • His ability to practice samadhi for a long period made him well-known among holy men at the Ardh Kumbh.

  • His teachings, which focused on awakening consciousness and achieving unity with the five elements, attracted followers from Japan to the United States.
