Some Lesser Known Facts About Payal Nair
Payal Nair is an Indian actress who is popular for playing the titular role in the soap opera Meher (2004-2006) on DD National. She is also known for starring in the TV series Saat Phere: Saloni Ka Safar (2005), Chand Chupa Badal Mein (2010), and Do Saheliyaan⌠Kismat Ki Kathputaliyaan (2010).
She spent her childhood in New Delhi.

During an interview, she disclosed that in her childhood, her maternal grandfather affectionately referred to her as ânautankiâ due to her dramatic nature.
Growing up, she actively participated in school plays. It was Payalâs movie-enthusiast mother who noticed her love for drama and theatre. She was the president of the dramatics society during her college days. Her journey as a professional theatre artist began at the YMCA, where she would attend theatre workshops after her classes.
Upon finishing her mass communication course, she briefly worked as a copywriter at an advertising agency. In late 1999, she made the move to Mumbai with aspirations of pursuing an acting career.
Till 2014, she attended the DellâArte International School of Physical Theatre to study drama and theatre. She has received training in theatre from renowned figures such as Amal Allana and Ranjit Kapoor.
In 1998, she featured in two episodes of the police procedural TV series C.I.D. in which she played the role of Kuberâs Wife.
In 2000, she appeared in the film Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!!, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Tabu. In the film, she played the role of Lilly.
She played the role of Padma Raj Dev Singh in the cop thriller TV show Dial 100 in 2001, and in 2002, she appeared in the horror thriller series Ssshhhh⌠Koi Hai on Star Plus.
Her first leading role came in 2002 in the Sony show Goonj Ateet Ki in which she played the role of a doctor named Revathi.
Later, she starred in the films Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahein (2002) and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai (2010).
She gained widespread recognition in 2004 when she played the titular role in the soap opera Meher on DD National. In this series, she also played the double of Meher named Shabana.
She played a negative role in the TV series Saat Phere: Saloni Ka Safar in 2005.
From 2005 to 2007, she appeared in the Star Plus soap opera Bhabhi in which she played the roles of Manju Chatterjee (after undergoing plastic surgery), Meenakshi Chatterjee, and Meenakshi Tilak Chopra.
Subsequently, she played supporting roles in TV programs like Parrivaar (2007), STAR Oneâs Chhoona Hai Aasmaan (2007-2008), and Zee TVâs Do Saheliyaan⌠Kismat Ki Kathputaliyaan (2010).
In 2008, she played the role of Sandy in Sorry Bhai.
In 2009, she starred in the theatrical production Jaise Kitabon Mein Mile in which she played the role of Meera.
In 2010, she gained recognition for her negative portrayal of Chanchal Jawahar Sood in Chand Chupa Badal Mein on Star Plus.

In 2020, she appeared in the acclaimed biographical drama film Chhapaak, where she played the role of Shiraz Jamshedji. The film revolves around the challenges faced by an acid attack survivor named Malti, whose parents are employed as domestic help in Shirazâs house.
She played the role of Warden Liza in Tata Sky Theatreâs teleplay Seven. The play was about seven retired freedom fighters who make an effort to fulfil their dying friendâs last wish.
In 2020, she played the role of principal Parul Sharma in the popular TV series Anupamaa on Star Plus.
In the same year, she appeared in the âKhushiyon ki Ladiâ Campaign for Diwali by Philips India.
In 2023, he appeared in Salima Razaâs theatrical presentation titled Majaz Zinda Hai, a musical dramatization of the life and artistic contributions of the renowned Urdu poet Asrar-ul-Haq Maz, commonly recognized as Majaz Lakhnavi.

In December 2023, she collaborated with storytellers Chandan Anand and Vikas Tiwari to present a Qissagoi performance at The Box, showcasing brief narratives authored by Ismat Chughtai, which delve into the dynamics of relationships between men and women. Qissagoi is a traditional storytelling style that historically occurred in the courts of the Nawabs of Lucknow and the Mughal era.
She portrayed the role of Indira Gandhi in Main Atal Hoon (2024), a biographical film which follows the life and career of well-known Indian politician Atal Bihari Vajpayee .
She has a pet parrot named Mithu.
Once, while talking about her role in the TV show Anupamaa, she said that she had a long working relationship with Rajan Shahi, the producer of the show. Her association with Rajan Shahi dates back to the TV show Bidaai in which she played a South Indian character. Subsequently, Shahi cast her as an antagonist in Chand Chhupa Badal Mein, which also achieved success. Following that, he cast her as a lawyer in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.
