Pannyan Raveendran belongs to a poor family. His father passed away when he was 11 years old.
He follows the ideologies of Communism. He prefers not to travel in state government cars.
According to various reports, although he owns a house in Kannur, Pannyan Raveendran has been residing in a room at the CPI state council office near Model School Junction in Thiruvananthapuram for more than 40 years.
In 2009, the communist party of India tried to convince Raveendran to contest in the 2009 Kerala Legislative Elections; however, he declined the proposition.
He enjoys watching and playing football and has also written three books on the sport.
His vision for Thiruvananthapuram includes developing railway infrastructure, an AIIMS, metro rail, and a high court bench for Thiruvananthapuram.
His signature style is long hair and when asked about the reason for his long hair he revealed that he decided to grow his hair as a reminder of the police atrocities during the Emergency (1975-1977).
He also said that at the time, hippie culture was really popular and the police in his area used to get youngsters with long hair to shave their heads in the police stations by force which gave him the further reason to grow his hair as a form of protest.
