Oti Mabuse grew up in Mabopane, South Africa.
Oti has been interested in dancing since she was a child. She began learning ballroom and Latin dance when she was 4.

Oti Mabuse had an older half-brother, who took his life at the age of 18. His death had a big impact on the family, and the community treated them with distrust because of how he died.
Oti began participating in dance competitions at a young age and became an eight-time South African Latin American Championship winner.
After completing her Civil Engineering degree, Oti chose to move to Germany to follow her passion for dance. During this time, she met Romanian dancer Marius Iepure, who became her first dance partner.
In Germany, she achieved top positions in many championships, including third place at the 2014 World Cup Freestyle Latin, second place at the 2014 European Championship Latin, and first place at the German Championship PD Freestyle Latin.

Oti and Marius soon started dating and got married in Denmark in November 2014. The duo then moved to Germany before settling in London in 2015.
Oti appeared as a professional dancer on BBC One’s show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ from its 13th season in 2015 to its 19th season in 2021. She was reportedly paid up to £410,000 for the show over the years.
