Norma Strait and George Strait met in high school.
They dated on and off for a few years before eloping in Mexico on 4 December 1971.
George was enrolled in the U.S. Army and was posted in Hawaii after their marriage.

They had two children together. Their daughter, Jenifer, passed away at the age of 13 in a car accident in San Marcos, Texas.
In 1986, they started the Jenifer Strait Memorial Foundation. The foundation supports charitable causes for children and donates to various nonprofit organizations.
While George Strait was on tour for his music career, Norma Strait stayed home to raise their son, Bubba.
She continued staying home until Bubba finished high school and went to college.
