He is an aggressive left-handed batsman who has on a number of occasions helped his team to get out of difficult situations. He is a part-time right-arm spinner as well.
 In 2015, Mumbai Indians bought Rana for INR 10 Lakh, but he did not get to play any match in the tournament that year. He, however, was retained by the franchise for the following year, but again got no chance to play in the 2016 season of the tournament.
It was in 2017 that Mumbai Indians brought their youngster out of the dressing room. He stole the show in a match against Kolkata Knight Riders, with his crucial innings of 50 off just 29 deliveries. Mumbai tasted the victory in the match.
