Some Lesser Known Facts About Nilima Sinha
She grew up reading books.

Nilima Sinha married Yashwant Sinha at an early age. During that time, Yashwant Sinha was an IAS officer posted in Bihar.
She had a passion for reading, and later, her children also developed a keen interest in books.
When she was young, most of the children’s books available were from Western cultures. This made Nilima Sinha concerned about her children losing touch with their cultural values and traditions.
Therefore, she thought to create a book that would be as exciting and engaging as any mystery-adventure book from the West, while mixing the elements of Indian culture.
When her three children went out for higher studies, she began teaching at Notre Dame Academy in Patna. Later, she taught at Bluebells School International in New Delhi.
Nilima Sinha works as a translator, editor, researcher, and storyteller.
In March 1981, she joined Association of Writers and Illustrators for Children in New Delhi as its President. She runs many free libraries for underprivileged children through this organisation.

She began working as a Vice President at the International Board on Books for the Young (IBBY) in Basel, Switzerland, in September 1998. She worked there till September 2002.
Her genre of writing includes historical fiction, biography, picture books, plays, and short stories.
As an author, Nilima Sinha has edited many anthologies including Our Leaders, Triumph of Non-violence, Kamla’s Story, Stories From Across the Globe, Once Upon a Time in India, and Lighthouse in the Storm.

Her notable work includes The Yellow Butterfly, So Can I, Rishabh in the Land of the Flying Magicians (2002), and four books in the Save the Earth Series.
She then went on to publish many children’s books such as Mystery of the Falling Mountains (2010), The Chandipur Jewels, Vanishing Trick at Chandipur, and Search for the Sacred Gem (2012).

Later, Nilima Sinha helped draft English textbooks for primary schools as part of an NCERT Committee. These textbooks are called the Marigold Series.
She also writes books in Hindi. One of her books, ‘Hamirpur ke Khandahar,’ is a supplementary reader for Class 6 students in SCERT schools.
