When she was 17 years old, she started her pageantry career after she read an advertisement for Miss Teenage California.
She was crowned Miss California USA in 2010. She competed in the Miss USA pageant and placed ninth overall.

When Nicole met Michael Phelps for the first time during the ESPY AWARDS in 2007, they hit it off and fell in love with each other. They started dating each other and separated in 2011.
