Neil Currey (1988-2023) was a British bodybuilder, personal trainer, and entrepreneur. Throughout his career, he participated in numerous bodybuilding competitions, including the 2022 Mr. Olympia competition. He passed away in September 2023.
At the age of 16, he relocated to London where he began his career at Fitness First Gym in London as a personal trainer. When he was 19 years old, he temporarily took on the role of gym manager during the manager’s paternity leave. He eventually became the area manager overseeing six gyms in London, which collectively generated £3.5 million in profits. check sources

He later worked as an Operations Director for a boutique company. He later ventured into professional bodybuilding. Following his success in bodybuilding, he started his clients through online coaching sessions.

At the age of 27, Neil Currey made significant changes in his life to become a professional bodybuilder. He sold his penthouse apartment in London, as well as his G-Wagon SUV, and moved into his mother’s apartment. After three years of dedicated training, he achieved the status of a WFBB (World Beauty Fitness and Fashion) Pro.

In 2017, he secured 5th place at his first bodybuilding competition in the pro muscle category at the 2017 World Championships. He earned his Pro Card by winning first place in the Men’s Classic Physique – Class C category at the 2018 NPC Worldwide Amateur Olympia Italy.

In 2019, he achieved 7th-place finishes at both the Yamamoto Pro Cup and the Kuwait Pro, along with a 9th-place finish at the Europa Pro competition. In 2021, he achieved 2nd place finish at the Tampa Pro and 3rd place at both the Puerto Rico Pro and the Xtreme Bodybuilding & Fitness Pro Men’s Classic Physique.

In 2022, Neil Currey secured victory at the New York Pro following which he became an IFBB (International Federation of BodyBuilding and Fitness) Pro. In the 2022 Mr. Olympia Classic Physique category, he had a 16th-place finish in the competition.

Neil Currey, in an interview, talked about his daily routine. He woke up at 3 a.m. to fit in four training sessions, including 2 for lifting weights and 2 for cardio workouts. He also had 6 meals and coached others personally. His morning started with 1 hour of cardio at 3:30 a.m., followed by taking health supplements. At 5 a.m., he replied to client questions.

He ate his first meal at 6 a.m. and took a 2-hour nap. By 11 a.m., it was time for a meal before his weightlifting session from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Another meal came at 3 p.m., and he had a meal at 5 p.m. too. At 7 p.m., he had another workout, followed by a meal at 9 p.m. He did more cardio at home from 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and had his final meal around 11 p.m.

Neil Currey’s diet primarily consisted of beef, rice, and potatoes, which he spread across six meals during the day. To meet his protein needs, he relied on ISO Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein Powder. For his pre-workout drinks, he typically included approximately 10 grams of Tangy Raspberry Silo9 Essential Amino Acids, 75 grams of CDX Cluster Dextrin Carb Powder, 5 grams of Micronized Creatine Monohydrate, and Fermented Glutamine.

In May 2020, Neil Currey, in collaboration with Rebecca Jane Grant, introduced his merchandise brand called ‘Machine Mentality.’ This brand primarily featured T-shirts and hoodies in its collection. check sources

Neil Currey’s former coach, Milos Sarcev, shared the news of Currey’s passing on Instagram on 11 September 2023, when Neil was 34 years old. Initially, the post mentioned suicide as a cause, citing mental health issues; however, the post was later edited, and any reference to suicide was removed, leaving the cause of death unconfirmed.
