Her husband died when she was twenty years old.
After completing her formal education, she began practising law.
She runs Khan Legal Solicitor firm in Rajarhat, Kolkata, West Bengal, as its chairperson, and works as an advocate in the Supreme Court of India.

She is also active in politics and works as a BJP minority leader, a state committee member of the handloom cell, a national observer for the Mazdoor cell, and the chairperson of the Muslim Women Resistance Committee in West Bengal.

She came into the limelight after representing a triple talaq victim, Ishrat Jehan, in 2021. She fights for the rights of Muslim women and against discriminatory religious practices.
In 2024, Nazia Elahi Khan appealed for a ruling that no Muslim girl should be allowed to marry until she finishes Class XII, but the Calcutta High Court rejected her request.
In August 2024, Indian cricketer Shivam Dube’s wife, Anjum Khan , posted against Nazia on social media. Anjum called for Nazia’s arrest and urged Muslims to take action against her. Nazia responded, saying Anjum Dube, married to a Hindu, was not part of Islam and was spreading false and controversial information to provoke violence against her.
