Some Lesser Known Facts About Natalie Fleet
Natalia Fleet grew up in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Her mother worked in a factory, and her father and other family members were coal miners.
As a child, she received free school meals and went through periods of homelessness.
She joined the Labour Party as a teenager.
She later joined the university as a mother of two but dropped out due to cultural differences. She described university as ‘too posh’ and felt she didn’t belong.
She worked in the voluntary sector and later for trade unions, including the National Education Union.
In the 2019 general election, she contested the Ashfield seat as a Labour candidate. She finished third.
During the campaign, she received threats and her campaign office was vandalised. She did not contest the seat again due to safety concerns.
In the 2024 general election, Fleet was elected as the first female MP for Bolsover, defeating Conservative MP Mark Fletcher.
She had initially lost the Bolsover Labour candidate selection but was selected later after the first candidate resigned.
In November 2024, she voted in favour of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which supports legalising assisted dying.
In a 2024 interview, she said she became pregnant with her first daughter at the age of 15 after being groomed by an older man.
She campaigns to change the law to remove parental rights from rapists. She is drafting an amendment to the Victims and Courts Bill for this purpose. She plans to start a charity for families of children conceived through rape.
The charity will provide support, advice, and age-appropriate communication tools. She aims for victims to have MPs who believe them, trained police officers, a faster court system, and adequate prison space for offenders.
In 2025, Fleet became a grandmother when her daughter gave birth. Her husband is working part-time to help with childcare. Fleet has said she misses her home life while working in Parliament.
