Nandita is the daughter of famous Indian painter Jatin Das and writer Varsha Das.
She started her acting career with a theater group known as Jana Natya Manch.
She got her breakthrough role in 1989 with the Bollywood film Parinati.
She has worked in 12 different languages such as Hindi, English, Malayalam, Oriya, Kannada, Rajasthani, Bengali, Tamil, Urdu, Marathi, Telugu, and Catalan.
She was the member of the jury twice at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005 &Â 2013.
She has been awarded the Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Government of France for her contribution towards arts.
