Mukta Barve is an Indian actress, poetess, and theatre artist and producer. She is one of the most popular Marathi actresses.
In an interview, she confessed that she was less sociable and didnât have many friends in her childhood.

When she was in class 10, Mukta Barve made her acting debut with the Marathi play âGhar Tighancha Asava,â and went on to play the supporting roles in the Marathi plays, Aamhala Vegle Vhayache (2001) and Dehbhaan (2005).
To focus on her acting career, Mukta moved to Mumbai later, where she stayed at a girlâs hostel in Kurla.
She appeared in a lead role (a student)Â for the first time in the Marathi play âFinal Draftâ (2005) and has since then acted as a lead actress in various Marathi plays such as Hum To Tere Aashiq Hain (2006), Kabaddi Kabaddi (2008), Chhapa Kata (2013), Lovebirds (2015), and Codemantra (2016).
Mukta Barve made her Marathi television debut with âGhadlay Bighadlayâ (1998) as âChampaâ and further played small roles in the Marathi TV serials, Pimpalpan (1998), Bandhan (1998), Buwa Aala (1999), Chitta Chor (1999), Me Ek Bandu (1999), Abhalmaya (1999), Shriyut Gangadhar Tipre (2001), and Indradhanush (2003).
In 2006, she appeared in a lead role for the first time in television with âAgnishikhaâ as âKalika.â She has acted in television shows, Agnihotra (2010-11), Lajja (2011), Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta (2012), and Rudram (2017). She made her debut as a host with the Marathi game show âAmhi Marathi Pora Husharâ (2010).

She has also acted in popular Marathi films including, Jogwa (2009), Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai (2010), Badam Rani Gulam Chor (2011), Lagna Pahave Karun (2013), Mangalashtak Once More (2013), Double Seat (2015), Highway (2015), Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai 2 (2015), YZ (2016), Hrudayantar (2017), Aamhi Doghi (2018), Mumbai Pune Mumbai 3 (2018), Bandishala (2019), Smile Please (2019), and Devi (2020).
In 2013, she founded her production company âRasika Productions,â which is named after her friend and late Marathi actress, Rasika Joshi.

In 2014, she produced poetry based theatre program âRang Navaâ with the composer, singer, painter, and poet, Milind Joshi. She even recited her own poetry at the program.
She has produced the Marathi plays, Rang Nava (2014), Lovebirds (2015), Indira (2015), Codemantra (2016), Deepsthamb (2016), Sakharam Binder (2017), Dhai Akshar Prem Ke 92017), and Challenge (2018); Codemantra (2016) being one of the most popular Marathi plays.
The income that she earns from her play âCodemantraâ goes to the Indian Army Welfare Fund.
On 7 December 2014, Barve wrote an article on the first death anniversary of Vinay Apte, reviving his memories in the Marathi daily newspaper, Loksatta.
In 2015, Barve, along with some other actors, took initiative in an expedition, âPakshi Vachvaâ launched by the NGO âAnimals Matter To Me,â for the protection of birds.
On 8 February 2016, the newspaper Loksatta published her poetry âShodh.â
In 2017, she made her debut as an RJ with âThe Mukta Barve Show,â a women-centric show and focuses on the issues faced by women.
In 2017, she uploaded a post on her social media account which exposed the Pune Municipal Corporation. The post contained pictures of dirty urinals and toilets located in Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium in Kothrud, Pune. Her post read,
The situation of the toilets in all the auditoriums is near about the same. PMC and concerned authorities are not serious about it. Every time the PMC authorities are giving different reasons for poor toilets and not cleaning it properly. What to say, is this situation negligence or arrogance. They are taking actors and audience for granted.â
As soon as her post went viral, the administration acted on it and tried to solve the problems addressed by Mukta.
In 2020, she acted in the short film âDeviâ which stars the actresses like Kajol , Shruti Haasan , Neha Dhupia , and Neena Kulkarni . The film also marks the debut short film of Kajol and Shruti.
She is an avid animal lover and has a cat, Zendu.
