Some Lesser Known Facts About Muhammad Salaam
Muhammad Salaam was a member of the Indian football team which came 4th in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He was awarded Best Defender in the 1956 Olympics.

In April 2024, a Bollywood film ‘Maidaan’ was released which featured Ajay Devgn  as Syed Abdul Rahim , the coach of the Indian football team which qualified for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
He played for Mohammedan Sporting Club and helped his team win the Calcutta Football League and IFA Shield in 1957.
Salaam later served as the Manager of the India Under-19 football team, which was the joint winner (with Iran) of the AFC Youth Championship in 1974.

He later became coach of the Andhra Pradesh state football team.
He was the first coach of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh in 1981 and retired from there as the deputy director.
In 2011, he was given bedrest due to a hip injury.
He died on 3 December 2016 after being bedridden for five years.
