| Controversy | On 30 August 2023, Meezaan Jafri found himself at the center of controversy as an FIR was filed against him in relation to a scene from the film 'Yaariyan 2' in which he could be seen wearing a kirpan, which was seen as offensive to Sikh sentiments as according to the Sikh Code of Conduct, only a baptised Sikh could wear the 'kirpan'. The FIR was registered in Jalandhar, Punjab, under Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs). Along with Meezaan Jafri, directors, and other producers of the film were also named in the complaint. On 1 September 2023, another case was lodged against Meezaan Jafri, along with others, following a complaint by members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), under the same charges. Later, in an interview, the filmmakers claimed that Meezaan was actually wearing a khukri, not a kirpan, but the SGPC members expressed their dissatisfaction, insisting that Sikhs could differentiate between the two. Mizaan is the eldest child of Javed Jaffrey . He was born into a family of actors. His grandfather, popularly known as Jagdeep, is a veteran actor and comedian; his paternal uncle Naved Jaffery is an actor, producer, director, and choreographer.
Jafri began his career as an Assistant Director for Sanjay Leela Bhansaliâs film âBajirao Mastani.â
In 2019, he made his Bollywood debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali âs film âMalaal.â
Meezan had no intentions of entering the glamour world. He says;
I never intended to get into the industry or try filmmaking. I was actually inclined towards sports and music. My co-star Sharmin (Segal) is my classmate, and she was assisting for Mary Kom. After we were done with school, I was studying business, but then I joined film school because I thought business did not suit me and I wanted to try editing and direction.â
He is very close to his mother and considers his father strict.
Meezaan learned dancing from his father, Javed Jaaferi.
He is trained in theatre and martial arts.
When he was in school, he was more inclined towards music and sports. He has represented the state of Maharashtra in many inter-and state-level Basketball competitions. Moreover, Meezan also played football and did swimming.
