Mehjabeen Shaikh, also known as Zubeena Zareen, is a Pakistani woman who is known for being the first wife of gangster Dawood Ibrahim .
According to some media outlets, Mehjabeen grew up in the infamous Bhendi Bazaar area of Mumbai, where Dawood Ibrahim also grew up. Her uncle, Salim Kashmiri, lives in the area.
Reportedly, in the 1990s, one of Dawoodâs friends âMumtaz Khanâ invited him for dinner. During dinner, Dawood was attracted by the beauty of Mehjabeen, who was Mumtazâs sister-in-law. Eventually, Dawood and Sujata started dating, and despite Mehjabeenâs fatherâs initial disapproval, he agreed to their marriage after learning about Dawoodâs fatherâs respectable background as a policeman.
Mehjabeen Shaikh got married to Dawood Ibrahim in the 1990s, and they have four children. Her daughter, Mahrukh Ibrahim, married Junaid Miandad, son of Javed Miandad, a former Pakistani cricket player. Zubeena Zareenâs second daughter, Mehreen, tied the knot with Ayub, a Pakistani-American citizen, in 2011, and their third daughter, Maria Ibrahim, was born in 2012.

One of her relatives once narrated the behaviour of Mehjabeen Shaikh in a media interview. The relative shared that Mehjabeen was a caring lady, who always stayed in touch with all the relatives of Dawood Ibrahim . Dawood often called his Mehjabeen on festivals over WhatsApp, the relative said.
Dawoodâs sister, Haseena Parkar, shared in a media interview that Mehjabeen Shaikh was the moving spirit behind her family. She arranged her daughter Mahrukhâs marriage to Junaid, the son of former cricketer Javed Miandad. She initially discussed the idea with Miandadâs wife, her close friend. Pakar added that Mehjabeen was the only person Dawood feared. He used to throw parties when she was away, but everything was quickly cleaned up if she unexpectedly returned, especially removing any signs of young women she would not approve of.

In 2016, Zubeena visited her birthplace, Mumbai, and met her father, Salim Kashmiri, for the first time. During this travel, she also visited a government-run educational institution.
In 2017, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala stated in a video message that the Modi government remained inactive when she visited India in 2016. Surjewala commented a day after Dawood Ibrahim âs arrested brother, Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar , revealed to Indian investigators that Dawoodâs wife, Mehjabeen Shaikh, visited Mumbai in 2016 to meet her uncle, Salim Kashmiri, before leaving secretly.
