Some Lesser Known Facts About Mayilsami
Mayilsamy was an Indian actor, theatre artist, host, and television presenter known for playing comic roles in Tamil films. He is known for his onscreen chemistry with the renowned comedian of the Tamil industry, Vivek, who died in April 2021.
He was associated with theatrical production when he was a child and used to perform locally in his hometown in Tamil Nadu. However, he later moved to Chennai to pursue a career in acting.
After making his acting debut with the Tamil film “Dhavani Kanavugal” (1984), he appeared in various films among which the most notable Tamil films include “Gnanapazham” (1996), “Dhill” (2001), “Vaseegara” (2003), “Kanchana” (2011), “Sathiram Perunthu Nilaiyam” (2013) and “Idiot” (2022).

He rose to fame after he appeared in the Tamil language film “Dhool” (2003) in which he played the role of Kunchacko.
In a career span of almost four decades, he has worked in more than 200 films.
After hosting the TV show “Comedy Time” in 2003, Mayilsami hosted various TV shows including “Timekku Comedy” (2005) on Jaya TV, and “Lollupa” (2019).
Apart from working as an actor, he has also worked as a dubbing artist in various films including “Selva” (1996), “Ullam Kollai Poguthae” (2001), and “New” (2004).
He was an admirer of M. G. Ramachandran, an Indian actor, politician, and philanthropist. Like his ideal MGR, he too believes in helping poor people; he is also known for his philanthropic activities.
In 2021, he contested assembly elections from the Virugambakkam constituency as an independent candidate and was defeated.
He was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and often visits Marundeeswarar Temple in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. On 17 February 2023, he went to the Kelambakkam temple, where he performed along with the drummer Shivamani, at an event held on the occasion of Mahashivraatri.

After Mayilsamy’s death, Shivamani shared with the media, in an interview, about Mayilsamy’s last wish to bring Rajinikanth to the Kelambakkam Shiva temple, which he told him while they were performing at the temple. Shivaman said,
Mayilsamy had told me, “I have brought (late) Vivek sir to this temple. I brought you (Drums Shivamani) too. and my last wish is to bring Superstar Rajinikanth to this temple and and get him to do the milk abhishekam on the linga here.”
In an interview, Rajinikanth expressed condolences on the death of Mayilsamy and said that he will definitely fulfil Mayilsamy’s last wish. He said,
His (Mauilsamy’s passing away on Shivaraatri is not a coincidence but (points to the sky) his calculation. He (Lord Shiva) has called his pious devotee (Mayilsamy) to himself on his (Lord Shiva’s) apt day.”
