Some Lesser Known Facts About Matt Henry
After studying in New Zealand, Matt went to England to complete his sixth-form studies on a one-year scholarship.
Matt Henry made his first-class cricket debut in the 2010–11 Plunket Shield against Wellington in March 2011.
Although not part of New Zealand’s squad for the 2015 ODI World Cup, he was later included as a replacement for Adam Milne in the tournament and took two wickets in the finals against Australia.
Matt Henry likes to play golf.

In 2016, Matt Henry along with Jimmy Neesham set the record of the highest ninth-wicket partnership for New Zealand in an ODI match; they made a partnership of 84 runs against India.
In April 2018 during the County cricket match, Matt took five wickets against Durham in the first innings and seven wickets in their second to record his first ten-wicket haul with match figures of 12 wickets for 73 runs.
Matt Henry was signed by Kings XI Punjab in February 2017 for Rs. 50 Lakhs. He was previously bought by Chennai Super Kings but did not play a match for them.
Matt Henry was awarded man of the match award against India in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup semifinal match; he took 3 wickets for 37 runs in the match.
Matt Henry was part of the New Zealand squad which won the World Test Championship title in 2021.
Matt Henry took his first five-wicket haul in test cricket against South Africa in February 2022.
In 2023, Matt Henry was the highest wicket-taker of the Vitality Blast tournament and helped the Somerset team to win their first Vitality Blast title since 2005; he took 31 wickets in the tournament.

After taking five wickets against India in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Matt Henry surpassed Richard Hadlee’s record of 158 wickets and became New Zealand’s eighth-highest wicket-taker in ODIs.
