According to Manjot his date of birth was 15 January 1999 while some disgruntled parents furnished separate documents that state Kalra's date of birth as 15 January 1998. • In January 2020, he was suspended by the outgoing DDCA Ombudsman for one year from playing Ranji Trophy, for an alleged age-fraud during his U-16 and U-19 days. Since his childhood, he was interested in cricket.
His parents never thought him to become a cricketer and wanted him to study; as he was good at studies.
Initially, he used to play Cricket just to accompany his elder brother who is also a cricketer.
Soon, he started playing formal cricket in Delhi.
He had captained the U-14 Cricket Team of Delhi that emerged champion.
He has also represented Delhi in U-16 Cricket.
When he was selected for the U-19 Indian Cricket Team, he became the only player from Delhi to make his name in the final list of the team.
His inning of 47 runs against Pakistan in the semifinal of 2018 U-19 World Cup, earned him laurels from all the quarters.
