Some Lesser Known Facts About Manish Tiwary
Manish Tiwary was born and raised in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Both of his parents worked at Tata Steel, Jamshedpur.
He completed most of his schooling at Loyola School in Jamshedpur.
When he was in the 8th standard, his parents transferred out of Jamshedpur. So he moved to Delhi and took admission in Delhi Public School, RK Puram. During that time, he and his sister stayed in the school’s hostel.
When he was in the 9th standard, his father passed away from a heart attack while at work. He moved back to Jamshedpur and completed his matriculation in Jamshedpur.
For his higher secondary education, he relocated to Delhi and enrolled in Delhi Public School, RK Puram, New Delhi.
After completing his Class XII, Tiwary was interested in taking the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam, so he enrolled in the economics course at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, New Delhi.
However, when the Mandal Commission agitation (1990) against caste-based reservations began, he decided to leave Delhi and pursue an engineering degree instead. He then enrolled at the Birla Institute of Technology in Mesra, Ranchi.
When he was pursuing his MBA at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore, he met his wife, Pooja Singh, who was also his batchmate.
Manish got a campus placement by Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL at IIM Bangalore.
In 1996, he started his career at Hindustan Unilever Ltd as a brand manager for Pond’s and eventually rose to the position of Executive Director, overseeing customer development.
In 2004, Tiwary was appointed as General Manager for the North region and Head of Customer Development at HUL.
In 2009, he took the role of Vice President at HUL.
In 2011, Manish served as Managing Director for Unilever Gulf, Dubai, where he managed operations across 34 countries in North Africa and the Middle East.
Tiwary spent around two decades at Unilever, where he held various sales, marketing, and general management roles.
In an interview, Manish mentioned that he and his wife moved cities every three years across India and worked in every metro city.
In 2016, Manish Tiwary joined Amazon India, Bangalore, as Vice President of Category Management. He served in that position till 2020.
In late 2020, he became the Country Manager for Amazon India. Under his leadership, Amazon India expanded its marketplace to over 1.2 million sellers and launched initiatives such as miniTV and the Local Shops program.
Manish Tiwary also served as Managing Director of More Consumer Brands Private Limited (an Indian food and grocery retail store chain acquired by Amazon).
On 30th October 2024, Manish Tiwary stepped down from the directorship role at both Amazon Digital Services Private Limited and More Consumer Brands Private Limited.
In October 2024, Manish Tiwary joined Nestlé Saudi Arabia (SAR) region at Vevey, Vaud, Switzerland, as a Special Project Manager. He held this position til March 2025.
In April 2025, Manish was appointed as Managing Director (Designate). He will officially take over the role of Managing Director and Chairman of Nestlé India on August 1, 2025.
In an interview, Manish Tiwary mentioned that he maintains a consistent fitness routine, running at least 5 kilometres daily, regardless of the weather conditions. He also participated in various long-run marathons.
