Mangal Dhillon was an Indian actor, writer, film producer, director, and poet. He gained recognition for his role as Labhaya Ram in the Hindi TV show âBuniyaadâ (1986), which was aired on DD National.
During his university drama training, Mangal Dhillon displayed exceptional talent as an actor and was awarded a gold medal for his performances. Additionally, while studying in college, he participated in numerous theatre plays.
His journey as an actor took shape in Chandigarh, where he refined his skills. After experiencing a disagreement with his father, Mangal, who came from a village background, arrived in Chandigarh with no money in his pocket. It was there that he established his own theatre group named Natyalya in 1982.
Although his father wanted him to pursue a career in the police or become a lawyer, Mangalâs passion was not ignited by those professions. By the time he completed his education at a government college in Muktsar, he had already made up his mind to pursue a career as either a radio announcer or a teacher. However, his interest in theatre continued to grow stronger.
In 1978, he joined a theatre group in Delhi and worked as a theatre artist. He worked in various radio plays in Chandigarh, Delhi, and Mumbai. Some of his popular theatre plays are âTheatrewala Urf Pagal Haiâ (1996), âBaaziâ (1984), âBaba Bolda Haiâ (1986), âSandhya Chhayaâ (1984), and âAaj Ka Jarasandhâ (1983).

He acted in various Hindi TV serials are âBuniyaadâ (1986), âJunoonâ (1993), âPantherâ (1996), and âParam Vir Chakraâ (1988).

Mangal Dhillon was involved in various creative projects throughout his career. He acted in a couple of documentaries named âA Day at the Golden Templeâ and âSikhism.â
He established his own film production company called M. D. & Company, through which he released several documentaries including âA Day at the Golden Temple,â âPrakash Sri Guru Granth Sahib,â âSikh Ate Dastaar,â âThe Inseparable-A Sikh and his Turban,â âSarvnash,â and âHarinam Ke Chamatkar.â Additionally, he presented a theatre production of his one-man play called âTheatrewala Urf Pagal Hai.â
Mangal Dhillon also showcased his writing skills by penning two books titled âKujh Saddaran ate Chand Haunkeâ and âThe Dark World of The Ghosts,â written in both English and Punjabi languages. He even composed a book of Hindustani poetry titled âBe-Tarteeb Jazbaat.â Furthermore, he worked as a writer for various documentary films such as âSarvnaash,â âThe Inseparables,â âA Day at the Golden Temple,â âKhalsa,â and âPrakash Sri Guru Granth Sahib.â He also contributed to the scriptwriting of various films and TV serials.
In 2009, Mangal Dhillon started his YouTube channel âMangal Dhillon Channel,â where he shared spiritual and motivational videos.

According to his Facebook account, one of his favourite quotes was,

Mangal Dhillonâs life took a transformative turn many years ago when he began experiencing a profound connection with God. In an interview, he revealed that he engaged in dialogues with God and received answers to his questions. Inspired by this spiritual connection, he created a website dedicated to meditation in Sikhism. Moreover, he established a social welfare trust with the purpose of assisting individuals in awakening and progressing on their own spiritual paths. Mangal considered himself fortunate to be a conduit for Godâs messages. Additionally, the foundation aims to raise awareness about Sikh history through the medium of films.
Mangal Dhillonâs perspective on filmmaking underwent a significant shift when he encountered the thoughts of a Catholic Church father regarding Sikh history. The father expressed his belief that Sikhs had not effectively shared their remarkable and blood-soaked history with the world, unlike Christianity, which had spread globally through the story of Jesus Christ. These words deeply saddened Mangal and he found it unacceptable and shameful for the entire Sikh community. Driven by this realization, he made the decision to step away from his career in film and television. With immense passion, he dedicated himself to preserving Sikh history, ensuring that it would be witnessed by the world and future Sikh generations.
