Mahesh Gaikwad is the chief of the Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction in Ulhasnagar, Mumbai, and was the corporator of Kalyan. According to many news reports, Mahesh Gaikwad was preparing to contest the 2024 Maharashtra Legislative elections from the Kalyan constituency.

On February 2, 2024, Ganpat Gaikwad shot Mahesh Gaikwad six times at the senior inspector’s office in Hill Line Police Station. This happened due to a land disagreement between Ganpat Gaikwad and the Jadhav family. According to Mahesh Gaikwad’s supporter, Mahesh was at the police station to help resolve the conflict, but Ganpat saw him as a political opponent and shot him.
