Laxmikant Mathuranath Dixit was an Indian Vedic Karmkand (ritualism) scholar. His areas of expertise include Srauta, Smarta, Yajna, concretion, and various other Hindu rituals. He hit the headlines after he supervised a team of 121 priests at the consecration ceremony (Pran-Pratishtha) of the ‘Ram Lalla’ idol at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, held on 22 January 2024.

He was taught the Vedas and ritual practices by his uncle, Ganesh Dixit Javji Bhatt.
After graduating in Shukla Yajurveda from Sangved Vidyalaya, he worked there as a teacher for some years.
In 2023, Shankaracharya Swami Vijayendra Saraswati from Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham appointed Dixit to supervise a team of 121 Vedic scholars from all over India. This team was selected to perform the ‘Ram Lalla’ idol’s consecration ceremony (Pran-Pratishtha) at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The decision was made in the presence of Swami Govind Devagiri, the treasurer of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, and its general secretary, Champat Rai.
Idol of Ram Lalla
Pandit Dixit led a team of 121 Vedic scholars in performing the consecration ceremony of the idol of ‘Ram Lalla’ that started on 16 January with the basic rituals including Sarva Prayashchit homam and Dashvid snan, leading up to the final ritual of Devpranpratishtha, which took place on 22 January 2024.
He was the 11th-generation descendant of Pandit Gaga Bhatt, a famous scholar from Kashi in the 17th century. Pandit Gaga Bhatt was famous for leading the coronation ceremony of Chhatrapati Shivaji in 1674.
In an interview, he shared his experience of supervising the Pran-Pratishtha (consecration ceremony) of the ‘Ram Lalla’ idol at the Ram temple in Ayodhya and said,
It is because of the blessings bestowed on me by the legendary saints and seers of Kashi that I have been assigned the responsibility of supervising the consecration of Ram Lalla. I will perform my duties with the blessings of Lord Ram.”
On his demise, PM Narendra Modi shared his condolence through Twitter.
