Some Lesser Known Facts About Laxman Bag
Laxman Bag was born into a poor farming family. He worked as a daily wage labourer and even assisted a truck driver for his livelihood. He later bought trucks and got into the transport business.
In the 2019 Odisha Legislative Assembly elections, Laxman lost to Indian National Congress candidate Santosh Singh Saluja in the Kantabanji constituency by a thin margin of just 144 votes.
To win the 2024 Lok Sabha election from the Kantabanji constituency, Laxman Bag made labour migration the major issue in the area as his main agenda to target the BJD government. He said in an interview,
There is unemployment, labour migration, a lack of education and healthcare infra. All these problems are going to end. A new beginning is going to happen as the new government will be formed on June 10,”
Laxman Bag won the election for the first time in 2024 after he defeated Naveen Patnaik from the Kantabanji constituency in the Odisha Legislative Assembly elections with a margin of 16,344 votes.

Laxman Bag became an overnight celebrity after winning the Odisha Legislative Assembly elections in 2024 against Naveen Patnaik, who was a sitting Chief Minister of Oddisa at that time. He was also referred to as a ‘giant killer’ by the people.
